Which pins did you use? I tapped the innermost +5 line (on the mobo connector) 
and the adjacent ground and, while the IDE module seems to show up at boot time 
("invalid startup disk; press any key..."), it appears that I've now energized 
the chassis. ;-)

Now, to be fair, this may have been the case before -- I hadn't handled the 
(nearly-all-metal) case with the machine powered, previously. My EE-Fu is 
insufficient to propose potential (har-har) causes for a short apart from to 
say that there's no bare conductor that I can identify. Any thoughts from the 
more hardware-savvy in the audience?
