Saint Michael's and UVM (and maybe Champlain too?) have something like this for
students. It charges to their on-campus food accounts, whatever those are
called.

UVM uses the CATcard for multiple things. One of which is Cat$cratch. The on-campus food services (Sodexo) use their OWN meal plan which is separate from Cat$cratch and only works in the Sodexo venues -- but is also based on our CATcard.

Cat$cratch is similar to a debit card -- it works in the vending machines on campus and at local establishments (such as Henry's Diner and Leonardo's Pizza) that are popular with the student body. Unlike a debit card account, there is no interest paid on the balance in Cat$cratch.

For those of us that work at UVM, there is the option of having HR make a regular contribution to our Cat$cratch account from our paycheck.
