Rick... I think you may have been punk'd, if that is the appropriate
word. But while you're doing the conversion thing, could you just put
the summary in a Powerpoint presentation for me. Preferably one with
lots of colors, seizure-inducing flashing, and fun words like
"synergy"?
:)

Hmm. It was just a gedit text file...? At any rate, here is a .doc of the same
file created in Open Office. (don't have Word) hth
I can easily post them here. I just didn't want to clutter up the list. Let me
know if this doesn't work.

Hi Everyone,
Following up on the advice below, I contacted my state
rep
(Kitty Beattie Toll) and I attach our exchanges fyi.
Here is her latest reply. I will be happy to share my
copy
of the guidelines of which she speaks as soon as I get
my
hands on it:
"Rick, the software bill you refered to is now in
the
Government Operations Committee. At this time they
have not
addressed testimony. However, the chair informed me
that the
Dept of Information and Innovation has written an
"Open
Source Software and Open Standards Policy and
Guidelines"
that has been approved. I am bringing home a copy.
What is
the best way to get it to you?
I hope it is helpful. You can also keep track the
bill
online at www.leg.state.vt.us. I
shared your thoughts with
the committee chair.
Thanks, Kitty"
If you read the attachment, you'll note I
volunteered you
all as informed sources if she had technical
questions...

Thanks all. I had dinner with my state
Reps last evening (vt house), and was referring
to
this
bill, and its potential for evaluation as a cost
savings
tool. I suggest others contact their reps or
more
importantly legislators with your interest and
belief
in the
savings.
