Interesting, I was discussing this today with two people having minor
reception problems. I have satellite for tennis and baseball, but far
prefer watching broadcast over the airwaves. I have luck with a
modified DB4 design. I don't live in a mountainous area but can receive
stations 90 miles away.
You might want to research Doyt Hoverman and check "coat hanger"
antennas. I made mine with four Radio Shack bow-tie antennas. A few
links of interest:

Also, antennasdirect.com offers DB4 and DB8 antennas. I've not tried
them and they're a touch expensive, but I've read good things.

Hi folks,
Sorry for posting off-topic, but I'd like to talk TV antennae: I'm looking to
go over-the-air for all non-Internet TV at home, and want to know if 1) you
have personal experience with OTA digital TV, and/or 2) if you have a favorite
TV shop (a what? an anachronism?) containing the requisite gruff character out
back with whom I can have a hacker-to-hacker talk free of marketing hype.
Yes, I could read the Internet for this. I read the Internet all day for work;
this is for the off-hours. Also, the Internet seems to be populated by people
trying to sell me things. (Have I mentioned my distaste for marketing hype?)
I'm looking for someone who's in it for the love of electromagnetic radiation.
;-)
So: Who's my new TV-hacker buddy? Please reply off-list.
Cheers,
- -sth
