Greetings List Lurkers,
Welcome to your official notice of the Barre Open Systems Institute (BOSI)
Adult Swim. The swim stars at 5:00 PM), when we shall continue the business
pleasure and pain of dealing with the all manner of technology, with an
emphasis on open source stuff. How the hell did I arrive at doing this
kind of cool stuff on a Monday? Nothing works on a Monday! The ceiling
in my office just started leaking on an electrical outlet... The damn
network crashed twice while I was trying to get this note out (late
again...but hey? :^). Today everywhere I turn are errors and
omissions...
Monday, Monday, can't trust that day...
Anyway, I don't want to go off on a rant here... but several projects
remain on the front burner. We have had to abandon the development of
Barre Open Porch, mostly due to the fact that the Barre City fathers have
chosen to go with the $208.00 per month fee that front porch forum is
charging... After all they do have our tax money.... and I just got the
bill, breathtaking! Barre Open Porch (www.bopvt.org) would be based upon
a fork of the Open Porch product in GIT, but who has the bloody time?
Anyway there are always popular pellet furnace, and temperature monitoring
projects... I want one that when you reach a preset temperature it shoots your
bathing suite and towel at you.
our Ongoing projects that tend to gather here (or gather dust) include:
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/javajive - to get better at Javascript
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/tsp - Temperature Sensors Project
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/furmon - Furnace Monitoring
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/snowbot - snobot (coming soon)
Finally, I priced the batteries for the base of the snowbot. A "snowbot"
or "snowba" is a rumba with a snowblower. We have a parted out a hi-quad
wheelchair with the kind of linear actuators that might do the trick.
Now I need a about $200.00 for batteries, some MOS or IG FETS, and a
snowblower, one with internal caterpillar drive... ...or better yet a
well healed sponsor!
Otherwise Barre indeed remains a great venue for a Linux and Open Source
Software meeting. We have made some small progress on our internal
infrastructure, but remember - it is an analog world.
That said, continue to find Stans' grubby mitts on the Dallas Semi
"1-wire" temperature probes, and the Arduino is clearly the coolest. We
even have a new convert to the Arduino cult.
Note well that the Barre library stocks "Linux World", the DVD are available as
well. Don't reveal your source, I think I have some fines overdue...
Anyway, come and do open source stuff. For more information about the BOSI
Adult Swim meeting time and location try this:

Show up at the the Hedding United Methodist Church Basement if you have
questions or are interested in Linux or the concept of free and open systems,
The basement of the Hedding UMC facility is actually working out pretty well.
If you wish to be included on the "Linux_adult_swim" mailing list, send a
response to this note. Note that the mailing list system is a bit peevish
right now. Let me know if you have any difficulties.
Kindest Regards,
