Praveen Agarwal Chairman of Mormugoa Port Trust (MPT) announced the building of 
a spanking new terminal at MPT which will be used exclusively for handling coal 
and coke. The entire terminal will be painted white and be completely covered. 
The conveyors will be covered too. Not an inch of the operations will be 
exposed 
to the wind or the rain.
Agarwal has his own way of checking on precipitation of coal dust in Vasco. 
He often goes to St Andrews Church. He goes to examine the white walls of the 
churche and for the last two years he has not found a speck of coal dust. This 
he said is because MPT has been keeping to the directives of the High Court, 
spraying water, covering stacks and paying attention to the height of the 
stacks.
The terminal is being developed on a PPP basis, but the common user will be 
allowed to use the new facility which will be ready by March 2014. The 
Khariwaddo fishing jetty is coming in the way of the new terminal and the work 
can only begin once the new fishing jetty is available at Baina.
Mormugao Bachao Abhiyan leader Simon Pereira welcomed the news that the MPT is 
following the decision of the High Court and building a new covered terminal 
for 
the handling of coal and coke. He is not happy about the four years that the 
construction of the terminal is going to take however and says that during 
these 
four years coal transportation through the city must stop.
