CII’s Yi Goa Chapter: One Million Tree Initiative in association with Rotary Club of Dabolim, Goa Greetings from CII & Young Indians (Yi) – Goa Chapter members. We are glad to inform you that the CII Yi - Goa Chapter is undertaking an initiative of tree planting around various locations in Goa as a part of its ‘Yi One Million Tree Initiative’ which is an on-going environmental project across India started by the CII Young Indians in 2009. The Yi Chapters in the state have pledged to be part of this nation wide initiative and plant one million new trees in parks, public property, open spaces and communities such as schools, industries, residential areas etc. The Yi National plans to reach this goal by 2012. The program is sustained mainly by donations, sponsorships through the corporates, state governments, volunteers etc. This year Yi is focusing on the theme ‘Plant A Life, Be A Root’ with a special emphasis of improving the tree cover thus creating an Environment which must be clean, healthy and sustainable; despite the growing concerns of the impacts on climate change. Today most of the sectors are making significant investments for building integrated; environmentally-conscious products, this approach includes not only production of innovative designs for cleaner vehicles and fuels, but also clean & tidy neighborhoods, green technology for energy-efficient gadgets, electrical systems, environment friendly garbage disposal methods and lower carbon emissions. With this initiative, the Yi Goa has come together to build awareness on upcoming trends, in advocating innovative ways to conserve the environment and restrict deterioration of the environment due to impacts of pollution & climate change amongst young adults in the society. We are sure that such an initiative will help in creating awareness about environment thus inspiring young minds to be more proactive in planting trees and caring for the environment. The Govt. of Goa has very promptly consented to support this initiative of the Yi Goa Chapter and supply us with us with various fruit bearing trees like Jack Fruit, Kokum, Coconut, Mango, Chickoo, etc for undertaking this initiative. I am writing this letter to you soliciting your co-operation and valuable support in helping the Yi Goa Chapter distribute these saplings to the villagers of your pPanchayats in your vicinity.
