I use inkscape as well for my community graphic work I do. Great piece of open 
source software. It will be even more valuable once vassal can do more 
directly with SVG, either full on display of SVG or even the runtime 
conversion of SVG to bitmap. SVG = So Very Good :) as far as I'm concerned.
