Hi Gary,

The main reason I can think of for holding off is the amount of traffic that
this would generate through the VASSAL server.

Anything that occurs in VASSAL that causes a change of state that needs to be
seen by other players must be sent via a Command through the VASSAL server
and/or saved into the log file.

For the LOS to be visible to other players, each time the end of the LOS moves,
this has to be communicated via a command to the other players. This could
potentially result in large amounts of traffic through the VASSAL server, just
transmitting LOS end positions. All of this will go into the logfile as well,
bloating out the logfile.

This is also the reason why we can't let other players see where you drag a
piece until it is released.

Cheers,
Brent.

It would also solve the problem of free-look LOS checks that are prohibited in
games such as ASL. That portion of the request has come up a number of times
though I don't recall if there was some reason why it can't or hasn't been
implemented. Maybe added as a toggle to the preferences "Report LOS checks by
opponents" or the like.
