Hi Gary,

Not a bad idea.

I find it not too much trouble, but I have found a little trick that makes it
easier. I always create a multi-zoned grid, then create the Hex grid inside the
multi-zoned grid. Then, create a zone as well. After changing the Hex grid
options, just click on the zone and select 'Define Shape' and use the preview
zone drawing window to check on the accuracy of your grid. No need to start new
games all the time.

Cheers,
Brent.

I think as we all know, aligning the grid to the map has got to be the most
frustrating thing to do in VASSAL. Getting the grid to overlay just right and
with the proper numbering takes many, many tries and retries in most cases.

When adding a multi-zoned Grid, you get a little "preview" window where you can
draw your area to zone off. Wouldn't it be nice if you could have the same
preview window showing your grid (you would have to enable "draw grid" first)
and then have the ability to shift that grid with the arrow keys? Perhaps even
a shift+arrow key to move the grid in increments of your hex/square
width/height?

Guessing the X & Y offset and then loading up a new game to see if it's aligned
properly - going back and forth between editing and previewing - has got me
pulling my hair out!

Luckily my grid size is always correct as I use the method outlined in my map
making tutorial - if I was also having to play with the proper width/height of
the hex, I'd of given up long ago. :(
