Even easier than you thought and you don't need to do anything when making the
module in order for it to work. Simply drag a box (left click and hold and
drag) around the units that you want to select. You can then use the keyboard
shortcut to do whatever you want and it will affect all of those selected.

You'll have to click the top unit each time unfortunately - the selection
doesn't transfer once you delete the unit.

You have to do this while the stack is expanded. You can then click and drag
out any unit from the stack while leaving the rest where they were. Also, you
can shift+click multiple units in an expanded stack to move 2 or more out at a
time.
