The web start version has always been changeable through the jnlp file and
it does work. Lately though, there was a stealth update to java (6) that
changed the target of the vassal icon (those using web start version) from
the AMVassal.jnlp to a nondescript file buried deep in the java directory,
so any changes made to the jnlp were rendered useless. Users should check
their path target to see what they are using and make sure nothing has
changed if using web version

I did find that entry, but thought it was a bit more tilted toward the
diagnosis of the problem rather than the solution. I guess it needs
some
work. It might also be a good idea to have a direct entry on "how to
increase
the memory allocation"

Here's what I found:

Title: The map sometime flashes onscreen & then disappears. Other
times it never appears at all.

This is a symptom of too little memory being allocated to the VASSAL
program.

When using Web Start to launch VASSAL, it is allocated 256MB. When
running the manual installer, you can select the amount of memory to
allocate to VASSAL during installation.

==================

So, is it correct that if you use Web Start, you can't change
things? Or does editing the jnlp file still work? Either way, it
would be nice to be explicit about whether you have any ability to
modify the web start version.

As for the manual installer, it seems that changing this requires a
new installation. Again, it would be good to be explicit about this,
since this is one of the most common of the FAQs. A note about the
Mac version would also be good. I can volunteer to write that one.
The second issue, which may actually be a non-issue, is that the link
from the FAQ to the manual installer is different than the
vassalengine.org front page links to the installers. Does the link
need updating?

P.S. I did add a link to the Yahoo page's links section pointing to
the FAQ.
