My two cents:

     I deal with crucial data entry applications, which is basically 
what you are doing.  You are updating a database with crucial data.  
You are using a Access database.  This is what I do.  Update the 
database every transaction.  If the power goes out, you have lost no 
data that has been written to the database, worst case scenario you 
might lose one transaction.  

     How you choose to do this, these other people know much more 
about, I use DAO DATA1 control, which they have told me repeatedly to 
stay away from.  From what I understand, the biggest difference 
between what I do and ADO is that with ADO you cannot create a new 
database file.  I don't think this is a problem for you.
