One solution is as follows:
Look for this (hidden) directory in your home directory:
.VirtualBox
In this directory there is a file called:
VirtualBox.xml
Open this file with an editor like Kwrite.
Now you see some lines starting with:
<ExtraDataItem Name= ...... etc.
Below the last line of this block add the line:
<ExtraDataItem name="GUI/MaxGuestResolution"
value="1920,1080"/>
(as a single line).
Save the file and restart VirtualBox in full screen. The
maximum resolution now should be 1920 x 1080. This works for
every value you place in this line as long as it don't exceed
your real screen resolution.
