I'm not sure about that but I got around it in XP by booting natively
and virtually using the same partition managed through hardware
profiles. I would assume Windows 7 would have that ability as well.
You have to setup a raw disk vmdk file[1], which is basically a small
.vmdk file that references the real disk partition.
