I have Vbox running on a Windows 7 64bit laptop and I have numerous guests from FreeBSD, to Fedora, to Centos, other Windows versions. Everything works well except for ubuntu. Whenever I upgrade the vbox software, ubuntu can no longer access the network. The other OSes all can. Sometimes the configuration files are messed up and networking has had autostart turned off. Sometimes dhcp client gets misconfigured. Sometimes installing the updated guest additions fixes the networking problem, other times it creates it. Again, Only ubuntu acts funny. I'm getting ready to just pitch it, but before I did, I wanted to ask if anyone has a fix? ----------------------------------------------------------- Hi Rance, I encountered the exact problem on KVM. You can take it as reference. On a KVM box host - Debian 5.0 For unknown reasons all Ubuntu guests were unable to boot. All other Debian and Windows guests worked without problem. It took me 2 days to find out following solution. 1) Booted the host to previous kernel. All Ubuntu guests revived. All other guests also worked without problem. 2) Rebooted the host to the latest kernel. Then the problem was gone. All guests including Ubuntu worked nicely. The KVM box is now working properly without problem. There is nothing to do with the virtualizer. But I can't explain how the problem would happen. I also encountered problem after upgrade VBox before, NOT upgrade on repo. It took more than a week to fix all problem. From then I won't upgrade virtualizer. If its version is too old I'll build a new VBox transferring all guests images to the new box. B.R.
