You start in ~/.VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml. There I have:
<HardDisks>
<HardDisk uuid="{4c2bfe35-29f5-4d65-a379-7704778ce6cc}"
location="HardDisks/oS113KDE4.vdi" format="VDI" type="Normal"/>
</HardDisks>
The location parameter holds the pointer to the disk. In my case:
HardDisks/oS113KDE4.vdi
This is relative to the directory ~/.VirtualBox/
So in your case location will probably be an absulute path with vbox in it.
In MachineRegistry you will find the pointer to the xml file of the VM. In
this file the attached disks are present, which are referred to using the
above mentioned uuid's. So the only change is in ~/.VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml
and the move of the vdi file.
Considering your other question about merging disks. This is only possible by
having a VM with your new disk file and the two disks attached. Use a Live CD
to boot. In the Live OS, you partition the new disk and copy somehow the
content of the old root disk to the new disk. Probably with dd without
mounting the disks, or with cp -a? while mounting the disks. After that you
have to mount the new disk and the second old disk and cp -a? or rsync -av the
content of the second disk. The problem that remains is to boot the new disk.
I never tried this, so this is left to you.
