If I recall right, you need to go into control panel in xp, and run
the add new hardware wizard. If I keep recalling right, it should just
find a new com port once you do that, but I may be wrong.

If I may, why are you doing things the long way round (I.E. why not
just present the usb device to the xp guest directly)?
