finally got my Guest Additions issue straightened out, decided to
create a simple shared folder, R/W and automount:

  Folder path: /home/rpjday/vbox
  Folder name: vbox

Rebooted to test and, sure enough, it was mounted:

$ mount -t vboxsf
vbox on /media/sf_vbox type vboxsf (gid=1001,rw)
$

  however, p. 63 in the user manual in the boxed note suggests that
while full R/W access to the folder is granted only to the group
"vboxsf", other users are granted read-only access. but from what i
can see, other users have no access to that folder whatsoever based on
the mount point directory perms:

$ ls -ld /media/sf_vbox/
drwxrwx--- 1 root vboxsf 4096 2010-12-12 04:52 /media/sf_vbox/
$

  that tells me that unless you're root or in the vboxfs group, you
have *no* access to that shared folder at all.

  am i reading something incorrectly?
