Have you considered contacting the vendor / developer of the software and
just explaining that you want to move their old software to a virtual
machine?

The software is so old, they might just give you a unlocked version for
free, given that they're probably going to be quite pleasantly surprised
that they still have a customer using software that is more than 15 years
old.
