Hi,
on my system, a Windows 7 professional 64-bit guest on a Ubuntu 11.10
64-bit host pauses every now and then for a minute or two. This happens
frequently during installation of programs, but I have noticed it
otherwise too.
When the guest pauses, sometimes some actions with some other windows
inside the guest are still possible to some degree. (To be clear: The
host does not pause. Nor do other guests.)
I tried to install Windows 7 Professional 64-bit from two different
sources. One from a system-builder DVD, one from a download. Both show
that behavior.
Does anybody have a hint, if I have a chance to fix this? Do you need
more information to diagnose the problem? I'll try to give as much
relevant information as I can think of at the moment:
Hardware:
core i7-2600K, 16GB RAM
Host:
Ubuntu 11.10 desktop 64-bit
VirtualBox 4.1.8 with Oracle VM extension pack
Note that this is not the Ubuntu package but downloaded from
virtualbox.org
Guests (2 VMs):
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1, German
VirtualBox 4.1.8 guest additions installed
Virusscanner: the two Win7Pro64 guests use either:
A) Kaspersky Internet Security
B) Microsoft Security Essentials
The problem happens even when the virusscanner are turned off.
Configuration:
Memory: A) 2560 MB, B) 3584 MB, I did try even more.
CPUs: I tried 1, 4, and 8. Currently both use 4.
Display RAM: 48 MB
Network: NAT, A) paravirtualized, B) Intel 1000/PRO MT
Otherwise default settings
For what it's worth, I have also a VM with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit and a VM
with Windows XP SP3 32-bit. Both run rock stable with no pauses.
