So are lots of other applications - gimp, firefox.  Yes I realise that a
VM is a bit of a different beast but it does seem that the simple case
where you have the standard ~/.VirtualBox directory with all of its
files in standard places it should be possible for a new version of
VirtualBox to 'see' this and pick things up.

It's OK, I'm happy enough as it wasn't too hard to get VirtualBox
working again.  It's just a thought for the developers.
