(Using V Box 4.1.14 r7740 under Mandriva 2010.2)
This morning I used WinXp under VBox normally and exited* ('Shut Down')
as usual.
Then I noticed that at the bottom of the screen was a WinXP panel (Start
Program icon on left)! Never seen that before after VBox closed.
If I tried to re-start VBox, it would not.
Then I found that if I placed the cursor on the ghost WinXP panel, an ad
hoc sub-panel (white, with chamfered LHS RHS corners) popped up in the
centre, with various options. Never seen that before...
I selected 'Close' and the whole panel disappeared.
Great. I thought, so fired up VBox again. It appeard to be starting
WinXP as usual, but as soon as the WinXP screen appeared it exited back
to 'Running' mode (every time).
Tried various options in the WinXP ghost panel, but no solution.
So I abandoned the whole ~/.VirtualBox folder and restored it from
backup, then restored the data of the programs running in it.
So I'm back to normal.
Does anyone here recognise the abnormal state the thing got into?
Is there a VBox way of recovering from it?
* N.B. It's possible I accidentally clicked on one of the VBox icons at
bottom right of screen when closing VBox
