Good news! I have found the option for Passthrough mode in the GUI of
VirtualBox. On my system it showed up only when I had set up the VM not to
have a hard disk also. This makes sense, too, tht I should need to write to
a DVD when there is no hard disk present. However, I think it should be an
option also when there is a hard disk present. Thanks.
