Hi, Russ.
It is not clear to me whether or not you used an installation procedure with
your Linux package manager because you said:
> I installed 4.2.4 VirtualBox and the related Extpack from the oracle
website.
> Has this been built into the VirtualBox RPM?
In any case, Guest Additions are separately installed, and afterwards you
should see a little icon in the VBox tray indicating that Guest Additions
have been installed.
For Linux hosts, which it appears you have, you should carefully follow the
instructions in the VBox help file regarding installations so that the
program gets installed properly. The appropriate chapter is #2. Then, Guest
Additions have to be installed following the instructions in chapter #4,
using the section specifically related to installation of Windows Guests as
you appear to have WinXP in this case. The procedures describe a couple of
different methods, automatically or manually, and that section begins like
so:
4.2.1.1. Installation
In the "Devices" menu in the virtual machine's menu bar, VirtualBox
has a handy menu item named "Install guest additions", which mounts
the Guest Additions ISO file inside your virtual machine. A Windows
guest should then automatically start the Guest Additions installer,
which installs the Guest Additions into your Windows guest.
