LVM snapshots are crap. You have to pre-allocate all the snapshot space (which most people can't do because they've already pre-allocated all the storage.) And if you don't pre-allocate enough, then the moment the snapshot volume runs out of space, it instantly disappears. The main volume remains intact, but the snapshot disappears.
