One day of testing showed another problem: I setup the host with a non-preemptive kernel (kernel "server" option) and the troughput from virtio-net guests between each other dropped down dramatically:
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [ 3] 0.0-10.3 sec 16.2 MBytes 13.3 Mbits/sec Which means I do not even get 100 MBits any more. Whereas from virtio-net to external host: [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 843 MBytes 706 Mbits/sec looks far better but still no wire-speed. Nevertheless my latency problem is not affected at all by preemption. It stays no matter if the host kernel preempts or not. I tried gso/tso off btw on both guests and it had no effect at all. Many thanks to maxime....@altherian.org who talked off-list because he got the correct impression I cannot see certain posts on the list. As you may remember I asked that in another thread. It looks there is some problem with the ML, it is unlikely that the problem is on our side as I get everyone of my posts back from the ML. Be prepared I cannot answer to a list-email. Take me as cc to make sure. -- Regards, Stephan ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get 100% visibility into Java/.NET code with AppDynamics Lite It's a free troubleshooting tool designed for production Get down to code-level detail for bottlenecks, with <2% overhead.
