Sorry for my dry reply earlier but Im typing on a touch screen and I
hate it... that explains tne lack of greeting etc ....

Now back to your question... AFAIK VBox has ADDED extra container
formats (like .VHD, vmdk, etc  in addition to vdi), but never dropped
support for earlier formats, so you should be fine...

In any case, I still recommend you backup/compress your old VM just in
case (p7zip works wonders, specially with maximum compression, ie: 7za
-mx9 a VMbackup.7z diskname.vdi)...
