don’t know if this helps you but I had a similar problem but with 
windows 8.1 on ubuntu 64bit

google found me a post which had a fix "c:\Program 
Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxManage.exe" setextradata [vmname] 
VBoxInternal/CPUM/CMPXCHG16B 1

which fixed my issue naturally I converted the command to linux
