Setup:
OS: Openindiana (a version of solaris 11)
Updated from 4.3.26 to 5.0.2-102096
Hardware: `HP xw8600 workstation' with older 2x xeon cpu
Install of vbox-5.0.2-102096 was fine, running existing vms was fine.
However, on creating a new vm (gentoo linux) and on boot of media ISO
I immediately hit the error:
VT-x is disabled in the BIOS for both all CPU modes
(VERR_VMX_MSR_ALL_VMX_DISABLED).
Googling seems to be telling me I need to change a BIOS setting and
even gives the address for certain x86 machines.
However I find nothing related to VT-x in my bios on HP xw8600 2x
Xeon. Or if it is there I am not recognizing it after browsing every
setting.
It occured to me that it might be refuring to the LiveOS I'm booting
but the error pops up so fast and kills the terminal so that I am
unable to get onto it to get to those bios.
OK, one thing I learned on google is that it is a fairly new problem.
I've certainly never run into it. So thinking I picked it up on the
upgrade ... I down graded back to 4.3.26 but still I get that same
show stopping error.
Thinking it may be related to the liveCD I'm booting... I tried
several others... that same error shows up, killing further progress.
It seems odd that the exising vm that was already installed before any
updating began has no problem booting. Only the vm created under
vbox-5.2.
I really hope someone can offer some suggestions.
