Update:-

The issue was resolved, by disabling most of
the advanced features of the on-board RealTek NIC.

The reason example 'b' gave different
results was because it was undertaken on an AMD motherboard which doesn't
have a RealTek NIC.

The Windows 10 host does work but the whole
thing runs painfully slowly, I suspect this is just one of a long list of
failings from this operating system, and in traditional Microsoft style some
of them may be resolved to create a 'working' version in Service Pack 1!

Subject: [VBox-users] Timing issue?

In a mixed disk environment (i.e. HDD & SSD), the results can be somewhat
unexpected to say the least. All the scenarios quoted are using VirtualBox
5.0.14 and the guest is usually Linux Mint but the guest OS makes no
difference to the outcome.

a) Windows 10 host on HDD & guest on SSD - Guest crashes, usually
before the end of the guest install.

b) Windows 7 host on HDD & guest on SSD - No problem, works fine!

c) Windows 7 host on SSD & guest on HDD - Windows host crashes,
usually during the guest install.

Your thoughts please?

Martin G Clayton
