Peter,
Check three items:
1,   Vbox GuestAdditions Installed (you did that)2,   Under settings in the
Vbox GUI Console,  check that you have shared foldes, I believe there is a USB
option        also there is a drag-n-drop option that you can select to make
file transfer uni directional or bi-directional
3,   when you boot your VM, at the top of the screen, check the tab for shared
folders, again I think a USB option exists
I'm on my MacPro, so I cannot verify directly.  I'm using VMware Fusion 7 on
this.   I have similar issues with a Ubuntu VM on a Win10 Home host.  I have to
e-mail my archived folders.
No slant to the VBox community, but I'm saving up for VMware Workstation 12.5
for my windows host.  VirtualBox doesn't support nested virtualization which I
need on occasion.  I'm in school and work so I do not have the time to really
delve into these issues, I simply need my VMs to be reliable, which includes
solid file transfer.
Good Luck,  Let me know if you find a resolution to this issue.
Stephan

 Subject: [VBox-users] VBox 5.1.14

I have a fresh install of ubuntu 16.04.  I installed the Virtual box
5.1.14software from the Otaclke site , including the extensions pack.

I reloaded my virtual box ( created with 5.0.24) which is an XP machine
with anuber of programs for which I cannot find a linux equivalent.  The
machine starts with no problem. I can run all of my software with no
problems except that I cannot see any usb devices. These are clearly
available and usable at the Ubuntu level.

What do I have to do to make the USB devices available in Virtual Box?

On my original installation the devices were available simultaneously in
the Virtual Box and to Ubuntu.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards

Peter Goggin
