Setup: OS: openindian (x86) <hipster> (opensource branch of solaris 11)
       Hdw: HP xw8600 Workstation - 2x Xeon 5470 3.33 Ghz - 32 G ram

Keyboard is std american 104 key

I've been running vbox on openindiana for a few yrs. I moved to a
newer version of openindiana called `hipster' and have not been able to
install a recent version of vbox since... about a 1.5 mnths now

Just a few days ago I got an older version (5.0.28) to work and have
fired up my 6 vms. None showed any problems, in booting.

However, in all 6 vms (2 running recently updated gentoo linux, 1
running updated debian jessie stable, 1 running debian testing and 2
running openindiana) I see this phenomena:

Once inside any of my vms; I meand with vm in X, or at a text console,

I have no functionality of the Ctr keys.

For example... inside a vm in an xterm; typing Ctl-c just types the
letter `c' instead of causing `INT' or interrupt

Typing Ctl-d in firefox usually creates a bookmark... but now just types
the letter `d'.

Probably 85 % of the commands in emacs involve a ctl key.

Vim has things like Ctl -r for redo... none of that stuff is possible
now. Makes if very hard to get anything done.

Somehow the ctl key seems to be hi-jacked. In the HOST OS all is
well, ctl key works as expected.

This situation is nearly untenable.. since any work arounds' make
things almost intolerably slow to get any work done.

Any input or suggestions would be very welcome
