All, I have Virtualbox 6.1.30 installed on openSUSE 15.0 from the:
VirtualBox-6.1-6.1.30_148432_openSUSE150-1.x86_64.rpm with the extensions from: Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-6.1.30.vbox-extpack This particular Win7 VM on the openSUSE host has been running since 5.2.X and has always been Rock-Solid, never any issues. When installing 6.1.28 guest additions and again with 6.1.30 the guest aborted during the guest addition install. It restarts fine, sometimes in VGA mode, and sometimes at full-resolution and I can complete the guest addition install. However, I now get random aborts at seemingly unrelated times. I am completely perplexed by the vbox-vga or vbox-svga driver selection. YES I know the recommendation: windows guest >= 7 - VBoxSVGA Linux guest - VMSVGA other - VBoxVGA The problem is I have always chosen the defaults from 5.2.X on VBoxVGA + 3D acceleration. That still shows as the default when I install a new guest additions. I have attempted to switch to VBoxSVGA and it specifies I need 256MB of video memory to use that driver. However, the slider only allows a selection of a Max of 128MB, so the Settings for Display does not allow for the selection of the recommended amount of video memory. Further, the VBoxSVGA does not seem to respect the video mode hint save in the config file. In the config file I have: <ExtraDataItem name="GUI/LastGuestSizeHint" value="1467,856"/> but when I restart with VBoxSVGA -- that's all I get SVGA which looks like 800x600. Switching back to VBoxVGA and the size hint is respected. So any ideas why I am now getting random Aborts of the guest in 6.1.28-30? And why when attempting to use VBoxSVGA does it say I need 256MB of video memory but the slider only allows selection of a MAX 128MB? Does this looking like the VGA driver is related to the abort issue? I have logs that don't really look that different -- the aborts just cut off before the shutdown, but I'm happy to post or e-mail it to somebody direct. (5 longs in .tar.xz ~45k) -- David C.
