Correction:

Now this works. My mistake was to only the GUI application. After stopping
the daemon and the GUI, unmounting the CD and restarting daemon and GUI
(not mounting the CD) the CD-ROM drive is seen.

However, I am already stuck again, with the following error message, for
which I think there's a separate thread, that I will join now, though noone
overthere has replied with a useful hint, yet... ;-)

Error message (for completeness) is:

  Failed to start VM execution (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).
  Result Code: 0x80004005
  Component:   Console
  Interface:   IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}
