OK, hold the press. Windows does work (patience). Since the hardware emulation is different than qemus, it is going through its changeover. Canceled the video card because I need to enable the CD which I can actually do from the toolbar (need specific command line option AND a CD in the drive to do it in qemu!). Of course, must do it before bootup or windows will not have it.
