I think your problems with pclinuxos where something like forgetting 
to put the sound on in the preferences, about sabayon I can't say 
anything, I don't know that one, but I think every new distro works 
with a 2.6.x-kernel and should work. So far I only had problems with 
the antiquated Mandrake 7.2 which I tried to install out of 
sentimental reasons...
Just try the MandrivaONE, Cooker is the experimental development 
version of Mandriva...
