Hi all,
I don't get networking done with vbox under WinXP.
Here is my scenario:
┌-------------┐
| Workstation |
| |------ WLAN -----┐
| (WinXP Sp2) | 192.168.2.100 |
└-------------┘ |
192.168.1.1 | ┌---------------┐
| | | WLAN Router |
LAN |---| 192.168.2.1 |--- INet
| | | (DHCP) |
192.168.1.2 | └---------------┘
┌-------------┐ |
| Laptop | 192.168.2.107 |
| |------ WLAN -----┘
| (WinXP Sp2) |
| |
|┌-----------┐|
|| VM ||
|| (Debian) ||
|└-----------┘|
└-------------┘
I have 2 pcs, one workstation and one laptop (Both Windows XP SP2)
with vbox installed and a virtual machine running with Debian 3.1 r4.
Both pcs have a wireless connection to a router (i have no access to),
which DHCP's adresses in the form 192.168.2.*
The authentication on the WLAN router side is WEP + hardware adress
list (so if i set the vbox adapter to host interface i have to give
the generated eth adress to the person, who administrates the router
right?)
The LAN connection between the workstation and the laptop is set up
with static IP adresses and i use it to transfer bigger files etc.
(I put it in there to complete the picture of my network setup).
What i basically want now is to reach the outside world from my VM
(can do this with NAT), _but also_ make the VM on the laptop accessible
from the workstation (+ the laptop), because it is supposed to run a
server. The VM does not have to be reachable from Inet or outside
my internal net.
As i understand there is no way by doing this with NAT.
So can you then please explain me then (step by step if possible) what
i have to do to achieve this?
I tried for hours now (Bridging + the internal net method as described
in the manual) but with no effect, either the VM does not get an IP
at all or if it does, pinging does not work.
Thanks in advance,
Lin
