Hello again.

The misconfiguration on my part was indeed the problem, and things are
working now, sort of. The vm boots just fine, and the guest sees a
serial port. However, if I bring up hyperterminal on the host, and
minicom in the guest, typing in hyperterminal on the host displays the
text in minicom on the guest, but the opposite doesn't work, text
typed in minicom isn't displayed in hyperterminal.

File transfers between the 2 using z-modem don't work either. When
trying to upload/download a file from either side, both programs can
see that a transfer is being attempted, but the sending program
reports a retry0 connection time out. Running vmwaregateway /T /V
shows that both the tcp and pipe connections are established, but only
text typed in hyperterminal is displayed in vmwaregateway's window in
verbose mode, text typed into minicom isn't displayed in
vmwaregateway, or in hyperterminal.

The documentation for vmwaregateway, and the manual for virtual box
seem to indicate that both pieces of software support bidirectional
communication. Any pointers on what I'm missing, or on what else I
could check/do would be much appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Greg

P.S. I've noticed also that when shutting down the vm, either via halt
from the shell prompt, or via vboxmanage controlvm debian poweroff,
the vm window will sit there, saying "stopping debian", until
vmwaregateway is shut down, and the named pipe is closed. I should
also mention that looking through vbox.log shows nothing out of the
ordinary about the vm session.
