According to alsa:

"Card: Intel 82801AA-ICH
|| Chip: SigmaTel STAC9700,83,84"

and according to lspci -vv:

"00:05.0 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801AA AC'97
Audio (rev
01)
        Subsystem: Intel Corporation Unknown device 0000

        Status: Cap- 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium
        >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR-
        Latency: 64
        Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 9
        Region 0: I/O ports at c100 [size=256]
        Region 1: I/O ports at c200 [size=64]"

I stand to be corrected, but I don't believe the sigmatel chips
existed back in the day of 98 yet, and they definitely didn't exist in
the day of nt4.
