(sent originally through gmaine. apologies if duplicate)
I'm converting from vmware to virtual box and I'm having some problems
figuring out how to do the inter-host networking.
The physical machine is a laptop (Acer TravelMate 8200) and I'm on WiFi 80% of
the time, physical ethernet 20% of the time. As a result, I'm setting all of my
virtual machines up using address translation through the host machine.
I try to store the minimum amount of information on my guest machines and prefer
to use either an NFS or SMB exported filesystem from the host. So far, I
haven't seen any descriptions of internal networks that include the host, they
only seem to bridge interfaces for guests.
Restating the above as ASCII art,
inet -- host/nat ---+---+---+ nat network
| g1 g2 g3
+-----------+---+---+ private
Nothing says that these two networks couldn't be merged into one because the
amount of NFS traffic going on is not going to overwhelm an internal network.
One additional "would be nice" would be for a shared DNS with names (dnsmasq??)
So that you don't need to keep referring to all of the guests by IP address.
how would want to accomplish this network (either all in one or address
translation/private networks).
Thanks.
