Hi, I have a v20z host biprocessor with 6Gb RAM running
Solaris 10 10/08 s10x_u6wos_07b X86.
For many reasons, at the moment I cannot start using zones to solve my problem,
so to quickly get a running solution I decided to us VBox on this solaris
machine, running another Solaris 10 guest on it.
The guest OS uses 1 cpu and 2 Gb RAM, it runs in headless mode, host interface
network (plumbed and unconfigured bge:x interface).
At startup the system works fine for almost 1-2 days, then it starts slowing
down a lot, until it's almost unusable: even an ssh session would respond very
slow on every command. Restarting the guest system doesn't solve.
I have to init 5 the guest system, wait for vboxheadless to die on host and run
again, or actually init 6 the host system too.
The host system respond very fast in every situation, it runs just OS, ipfilter
on the 2 physical interfaces (1 public, 1 private), named, mysql+bacula.
The guest system runs a lot of network services (apache2, 2 tomcat instances,
postgres, postfix+amavis+spamassassin+clamav, cyrus, samba, webmin, bacula
agent).
>From time to time, restarting the entire system, some of the services don't
>start correctly, and I have to restart them manually (usually amavis or
>apache2).
I also experienced some system crash after some minutes the system restarted,
with null pointers on kernel, but no kernel dump was available.
Is there any way I should optimize vbox startup for solaris guest on solaris
host to avoid the slow down?
I also have these 2 messages on guest startup:
- NOTICE: MPO disabled because memory is interleaved
- WARNING: BIOS microcode patch for AMD Athlon(tm) 64/Opteron(tm) processor
erratum 109 was not detected; updating your system's BIOS to a version
containing this microcode patch is HIGHLY recommended or erroneous system
operation may occur.
Thanx for any help,
Gabriele.
