Hallo,

I use Debian-Squeeze as host for VirtualBox 3.0 and I have some Win2000
and Win98 Virtual Machines in VMWare 1.0 and I want to migrate to
VirtualBox 3.0.
When I use a Win2000 vmdk-Image to start undern VirtualBox then the start
process freezes when the progress bar of Win2000 reaches 100%.

What is the correct strategy to migrate?
I found that uninstalling all traces of vmware tools and drivers, while
running via vmware, made the migration process successful.

That does not work by me.
I uninstall all drivers and the vmware tools but a start in VirtualBox 3.0 hangs when the progress bar reaches 100%.

That hang is usually due to the fact that VMWare has IO-APIC enabled for the VM by default, whereas VirtualBox has it disabled by default in many setups. Windows isn't flexible enough to cope with this, so you need to enable IO-APIC (or switch to a Windows HAL which doesn't hang if there is no IO-APIC, see HAL section in http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Migrate_Windows ).

On Win98 image I can start it in the safety mode and I all uninstall all drivers and vmware tools.
But I cannot start it in the normal mode.
It shows first the splash screen and then it hangs after hiding the splash screen.

Dunno about that one.
