|What if the virtual client image file was stored on a lvm 
|volume. You should be able to use the lvm snapshot function to 
|get a copy of the virtual client image file while it's 
|running. Next backup the lvm snapshot by what ever means you 
|want. Best part is your client system does not need to be 
|stopped to get a decent backup.

The NAS cifs/samba shares I keep my vdi's on is a readynas unit which seems
to support Snapshots and also has a option to backup to usb 

So my idea is to setup the nas unit doing snapshots and then backup to a usb
drive
