I asked Sam about this, and the answer I got was that he does various
tests (security and otherwise) and running as root would obviously cause
problems as root has unrestricted access.  You do have to remember that
courier imap doesn't require vpopmail at all, so we can't exactly ask
him to remove this.  I still think my solution of updating the configure
script might be the best as it will point the user to the FAQ which will
explain how to do this.

Is there any reason why courier doesn't should be built as root? If not,
we should persuade Sam to just take this "feature" out... (I assume that
the FreeBSD port already does something similar as only root got write
access to the ports tree where it has to be built).
