I asked about this back in December, and no one could give a good answer.
I say JDK 1.3. We're not using any of the 1.4 stuff (nio or regexp) at the moment, so barring a good reason we should stay at that level of compatibility.

Subject: Re: require ant 1.5+ ?
Hi Will,
Any objections if we raise the minimum required ant version to 1.5.1? (Currently our docs read minimum ant 1.3) For the record, ant 1.5 was released more than 2 years ago (October 2002).
I say go for it. I haven't directly used any Ant other than 1.6, or indirectly used other than 1.5 (via Maven) for a long time now.
Incidentally, if we raise the minimum bar to ant 1.6, we can include the
javacc task to automatically build the parser code [3]. Of course, we can
include this anyway and just complain if the version of ant is too early.
Maven doesn't work with Ant 1.6 AFAIK, but since we're using Ant to build Velocity, I guess it doesn't really matter.
BTW, what's the minimum requirement of JDK? (Just curious)
