I am gathering information about administration of blood through a
central line to adult patients. If you would kindly answer the
following
questions:
1. Does your facility infuse blood using a pump? YES
If yes, is this into a PIV or CVC or both? BOTH
2. Does your facility require blood to be ran through a pump into
a
CVC? YES
3. Do you have specific criteria when you would use a pump to
infuse
blood? NO, ALL BLOOD PRODUCTS ARE INFUSED VIA PUMP FOR ACCURACY IN
KIDS. I HAVE INFUSED BLOOD VIA PIV BY GRAVITY IN CHILDREN AS WELL.
4. What type of pump do you use? ALARIS LARGE VOLUME PUMPS AND
MEDFUSION SYRINGE PUMPS FOR NEONATAL TRANSFUSION AND MEDS THROUGHOUT THE
HOSPITAL. WE ARE DOING MORE SYRINGE PUMPS NOW FOR MEDS, AND USE THE
ALARIS MOSTLY FOR CONTINUOUS INFUSION AND TPN.
5. What is the cost of your blood pump tubing vs cost of regular
gravity flow blood tubing? DON'T KNOW, BUT I AM SURE MORE $$$$
Many Thanks!
