For those of you on PICC teams:
Do you charge for placement (other than supplies)?Yes, we place a charge.We
don't get reimbursed unless it is an outpt.
Do you read the x-ray report? If so, does a radiologist confirm reading
prior to use?
We go down and look at the film and know if it is in the right position.
Our radiologists are willing to read them as a priority. We will get
confirmation from the radiologist before releasing them for use.
Do you take/store a picture from ultrasound? Can it be downloaded into
PACS? We use ultrasound, but don't take a picture.
Do you charge for ultrasound use? No
Who gets patient consent? Do you include "to be preformed by..."? We get an
informed consent and document that teaching was done and informed consent was
given
Who are the post insertion orders by (the ordering MD, the radiologist who
reads x-ray)? We have standard orders that the physician ordering the PICC
signs.
What hours do you cover? 06-2030 Mon-Friday and 07-1930 on Weekends.
We have IR as our backup on the times that we are not here.
Do you have on call, weekend, or holiday coverage?
we cover 07-1930 weekends and Holidays
What information do you monitor ie: infection rates, complications,
etc?
PICC's per pt. day. We monitor complications. Our Infection Control nurse
monitors the infection rates
Do you continue to follow this information after discharge? Only if
needed
I have Bard's information but am looking for any additional information or
helpful hints.
