We are using the Gripper Plus by Deltec. I had tried the Safety Plus Huber and
did not like it. It is the one that you squeeze the side of the wings to
remove. Well if you placed it in a patient who was heavy or large chested when
they turned in bed the needle would come out. This happened to me on a few
oncology patients. Thank God that they were not receiving chemo at the time.
I finally trialed the Gripper Plus and was happy with it. It comes in various
sized and comes with the extension with or without a side port. You can easily
access a DL port without any problems they are slim line and fit well side by
side. I have had patients who have had their port accessed in another
institution with a different huber and comment on how nice ours is. Call your
Deltec rep and get some samples.

Subject: port needles

Hi All,

We are trialing various various safety non-coring needles for use with our
ports. Can people share what they use and why they like or don't like it. One
of the challenges we're wondering about is how well two fit side-by-side when
the patient has a dual-lumen/dual-septum port.

Thanks, Maria
