Laura, I know each institution has own policies regading PICC flush. In our
hospital, we flush PICC with 3cc NS followed by 2cc of 10 usnits/cc heparin q
12 hours. Also, if patient is not fluid restricted, we recommned to flush with
10cc of NS for PICC infusing TPN. But the most important thing is to evaluate
the tip placement by radiographic study before reinitiating IV therapy for
patient transferred from other institution.

We have received a 22 month old from another hospital who has a 3 french
open ended picc. The child is receiving TPN 18 hours a day, then
locking it for 6 hours. We are unable to get any info on how long the
picc is. We need to know how much heparin and how many units per ml we
should flush with.

Thank you for your help

Laura
